Why I Fight
This is one of many reasons I know I was bullied
I was donating food, money and other items on a weekly basis for these people in a group home, the manager at Tropical Nights, my business partner wife’s ex-husband, who I had no decision in hiring, only after two months of employment, overrides my decision to take food to these people. I can’t seem to get that picture out of my head, it brings tears to my eyes every time; the disappointment in their faces when I told them I cannot bring food anymore. Again, I am asking of everyone, how right is it for a manager to override an owner’s decision.
I always have a dream of making a lot of money, but I know for a fact it's not to have a big bank account, it's to help as many people as I possibly can. This is one of many reasons why this time I decided to stop allowing people to cut me down. I want to spend my senior years doing charity work. Whenever people do these things to me they disrupt the charity work I was doing at the time.
These people are trying to take me down and I don’t understand why they are getting away with it. Instead people should try to encourage and assist me along they way because I make such a difference in this community. In the past, Tropical Nights donated food and money to various charities, such as Mosques, Mandirs, Women Shelters, Kids Soccer Leagues, Guyana Christian Charity, Sick Kids Hospital, United Way, War Amp, Save The Children, World Vision etc.
The goodness of Tropical Nights started with two employees and grew to over thirty-five employees which lasted for ten years.
Tropical Nights helped 12-15 people migrate to Canada. People from countries such as Sri Lanka, India, Trinidad and Guyana.
Most people choose to have a huge party for their 50th birthday or go on vacation two or three times a year, I am not saying that is wrong but think of how different I am so why do people do these things to me. I choose to walk to New York City three times and back and one time to Ottawa to raise awareness for children in poverty, many times putting my own life in danger, but it did not discourage me. I saw the tragedy that the 9/11 incident caused, the tsunami disaster, I recall seeing on the news a little girl in Sri Lanka lost her family and everything and a man saw on walking down the street and ended up raping her, I saw children selling lemonade to raise money and awareness to help, things like these and my two idols, Oprah WInfrey and Ellen DeGeneres inspired me to walk and raise awareness for children around the world. I live by Ellen's words "Be kind to each other".
In the past I remember I was sponsoring two children through World Vision and because when these negative things happened to me I had to stop.
I would like everyone to think, how many people you know would go to the extent I did to raise awareness. I am not saying I am special but at least people should acknowledge my effort for trying to make a difference.
Memories of my Father
I recall how he was such a fun-loving person with everyone, always willing to help when he can, and it didn’t matter what religion, race or who you were. He always loved to make people happy. I can’t even come close to be the human being he was, but I have some of his qualities. He always loved to put a smile on peoples’ faces by singing, dancing and clowning around. As a matter of fact, all of my family are loving, caring and giving people. These are some of the reasons why I like this type of business and it comes from my heart which is why I’m so good at it. Over the years, the feedback I received, Tropical Nights have been one of the most successful Caribbean restaurants in Toronto, so it is only ethical for us to continue under the rightful owner.
Some people say that they did not hear of how much money I raised. The truth is I did not raise a lot of money towards my charity, which was only $16,000. While walking for seven months I covered over four thousand miles, brining awareness to an estimated fifty million people at the time, it is possible that five hundred thousand to a million-people donated towards their charity. Most people, when inspired by life changing events donate to charities they are most comfortable with. Therefore, I feel I made a big difference and I am very proud of that.
